ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- New Mexico sophomore goalkeeper Shannon Adragna was named to the Soccerbuzz.com National Elite Team of the Week Tuesday after a stellar week against San Diego State and No. 16 BYU. Adragna becomes the first UNM women's soccer player to receive the weekly honor.
"It's a tribute to how hard she works and the training environment that she gets everyday," said UNM head coach Kit Vela. "This is her second year in our program and she has progressed tremendously throughout her career. She is a great kid with a strong work ethic and very competitive. It's truly a great honor to be recognized on the national level and it's well deserved."
The Albuquerque, N.M., native, was recently named the Mountain West Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 23. Last week, Adragna faced a total of 31 shots in two games, including 19 from the nationally-ranked Cougars, making 10 game-saving saves. Adragna finished the weekend with a 0.45 goals against average and a 1-0-1 record in conference action. She marked her fifth shutout of the year against the Aztecs as she fielded 12 shots and had four saves.
