2011 National Signing Day - GoLobos.com Live Blog
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- Lobo Nation! It's one of the biggest days in college football. It's 2011 National Football Signing Day and football programs around the country are inking recruits to National Letters of Intent. Stay posted to GoLobos.com for live updates as letters start rolling in. The fax machine has been buzzing all morning and the excitement is high in the UNM football offices. Coach Mike Locksley and the rest of the staff arrived just before 5 a.m. and has been waiting for the NLIs.
Good morning Lobo football fans! Chris Deal here, I'm the communications contact for the UNM football team. I'll be doing my best to keep you updated with signing day news and notes as it happens throughout the day on our third annual signing day blog on GoLobos.com.
If you have any questions during the day, feel free to email me at email@example.com and I'll do my best to answer them for you.
Throughout the country the weather has been playing issues and UNM is no different. The University is officially is closed but that doesn't stop signing day. All critical members of the staff are hard at work today.
Here is the process for today. We have most of the NLIs in at this point but are waiting for compliance to give the okay. Once I get the go-ahead from compliance, I will post names.
UNM has 21 scholarships to offer this period. Most of the class is set but still some questions here early. Excitement is the overall theme today.
9:20 a.m. - The first NLI came from Rockville, Md., and Freshman RB Crusoe Gongbay. Gongbay is an outstanding running back and adds depth for UNM. He ranks as one of the top recruits in the state of Maryland.
Gongbay adds depth to the running back position. He joins junior Kasey Carrier and senior James Wright in the backfield. Gongbay is listed at 6-0 and 196 pounds out of Rockville, Maryland and Rockville HS.

9:25 a.m. - Freshman WR Daniel Adams (6-2, 207) is a Lobo! His NLI has been released. Adams is an athletic wide receiver from Washington, D.C.
9:36 a.m. - Welcome ATH Zach Dancel (6-0, 186) from Good Counsel HS in Ellicott, Md., and OL Dillon Romine (6-7, 268) from Bradenton, Fla.
9:39 a.m. - Freshman TE Zach Boerboom is now also officially a Lobo. This is a guy that has a great football pedigree. His father, Brian, was an offensive tackle at Nebraska and currently coaches at Southeast Missouri State. Boerboom brings added depth to the tigth end position. He should compliment current Lobos Lucas Reed and Andrew Aho nicely.
Boerboom played at Central High School in Cape Girardeau, Mo. He is listed at 6-4 and 235 lbs.
9:44 a.m. - ESPN.com is running full coverage of national signing day. Click here
10:11 a.m. - DB Jamal Merritt, LB Tevin Newman, DB Zoey Williams and OT Jamal Price have been cleared by compliance. All will be true freshmen this season.
10:17 a.m. - New Mexico is looking to fill needs in the secondary with this class. The Lobos are also looking at offensive and defensive linemen.
When you look at this class as a whole, you can see the size and athleticism. New Mexico has been mentioned a lot on ESPN. Great exposure for our football program and the State.
10:22 a.m. - UNM has seven signees currently enrolled and will be participating in spring ball. This will help develop competition within the program quickly.
10:27 a.m. -Coach Locksley is a tremendous recruiter and once again had New Mexico in on one of the top players in the country. It's great to see our coach battling the BCS schools for the top high school talent. For the second straight year, New Mexico has stood shoulder-to-shoulder with the national champions.
10:34 a.m. - The following NLIs have been received for DL Desmond Hollin, DL Fatu Ulale, LB Harvellio Buie and OL Anthony Kennedy.
10:37 a.m. - UNM currently has 20 NLIs at this point. That includes all the mid-season additions. The Lobos added junior college defensive backs Destry Berry (Erie CC) and Deshon Marman (City College of San Francisco). Offensive tackle Korian Chambers (Arizona Western JC) is enrolled and will add depth on the offensive line.
UNM has four freshmen already enrolled this spring semester - DB Devonta Tabannah, OL Austin Weatherford, QB Dustin Walton and WR Donnie Duncan. All four are already hard at work, taking part in winter conditioning drills.
10:59 a.m. - The staff here at GoLobos.com is abuzz about Zoey Williams. The defensive back shows great range and excellent form tackling from out on that island, with a knack for finding the football and sending the ballcarrier backwards. Don't believe us? Check it out for yourself by Clicking Here.
11:25 a.m. - It doesn't take long to figure out that Zach Boerboom has spent a considerable amount of his life around football. His highlight reel (Click Here) reveals not only soft hands and a keen awareness as to where he is on the field, but a willingness to get his nose dirty and block with the kind of aggression that springs teammate for long gains.
