Texas Tech Red Raiders vs. New Mexico Lobos
Post game head coach quotes
New Mexico head coach Steve Alford:
Coach Alford's thoughts on the game
"This was a really big win for our program and what we are trying to build in the first year. To be a nine wins and to get this win was really good for us. We had all ten guys really contribute; all ten guys did a lot of really good things. The crowd was electric, our kids sense that and they appreciate it, I know our coaches appreciate it and we couldn't be more excited going into Wednesday's game."
In response to playing Coach Knight:
"It is very difficult and I said that going into the game. I don't like pulling against Coach Knight and you have to understand that I am somebody that from third grade on I went to his basketball camps and played for him and Indiana played on the Olympic team with him. In my 17 years of coaching there are two guys I call consistently for advice, my dad and Coach Knight and both of them have been very helpful in those 17 years."
"I thought we did a great job. We got Zeno and he didn't play much. We took Zeno and Voskuil out of the game were huge keys. Making someone else be a scorer, Singletary had a career high...We might have had eight minutes were we weren't very good defensively but it's hard to play 40 minutes of good defense against that offense. It's constant movement and it's difficult to guard and I thought this might have been our best defensive effort of the year."
Texas Tech head coach Bobby Knight:
Coach Knight's thoughts on the game:
"My first thought after watching this game is what a good job Steve has done coaching these kids and getting them to do the things that he wants done really at both ends of the floor. I thought that they were good one the defensive end and really well set up and really looked for each other on the offensive side. We felt that they would be the best team that we have played to date and they were that. I thought that he (Coach Alford) has done a really good job. Schmidly oughta send me a huge check for Steve being here."
On playing in the Pit:
"I think the crowds here are good. I wish we played in front of a crowd at home like this. This is our first time to play in front of a crowd like this and certainly we don't get it at home. I doubt if our crowds to date would equal the crowd that was here today. It's a great basketball atmosphere. I think that the more they come out to support the team the better they are going to find out the team is."
