SAN DIEGO, CALIF.--The Lobos were shot down in a close conference battle against San Diego State in their territory. The Aztecs defeated UNM with a score of 4-3 winning all of the top four singles matches to gain the victory.

The Lobos started the match in full swing as they took all three doubles matches.

At number one doubles, Jadon Phillips and Phil Anderson did not let a single game get by them as they won 8-0 against Bertsch/Siddigui.

At number two doubles, Ben Dunbar and Conor Berg defeated Pulgar/Gelbrich with a score of 8-4.

At number three doubles, Carl Ho and James Hignett had a little trouble against Baylon/Simon, but the duo fought hard winning the close match with a score of 8-6.

After UNM won the doubles point, it was now onto singles for the Lobos to potentially win six more points.

At number one singles, Jadon Phillips was defeated by Javier Pulgar with a score of 6-3, 6-4.

At the number two spot, Ben Dunbar fought against Derek Siddigui. The match went to three sets after Siddigui won the first set 6-4 and Ben Dunbar won the second 6-2. Siddigui won the match after he defeated Ben Dunbar in the third set 6-2. The final score was SDSU 6-4, 2-6, 6-2.

Phil Anderson forced the match to a tiebreak in the second set against Thorsten Bertsch at the number three position. Bertsch came out on top however winning the necessary two points in the tiebreak. The final score was SDSU 6-3, 7-6 (7-5).

At the number four spot, Conor Berg fell to Freddy Gelbrich with a score of 6-4, 6-0.

At number five singles, Samir Iftikhar did not let up on his intensity winning his three set match against Rickey Baylon.  The first and second sets were rather close as Samir Iftikhar won the first 6-4, and Baylon won the second in a tiebreak 7-6. Samir Iftikhar turned up the throttle in the third set taking his opponent down with a final score of 6-4, 6-7, 6-2.

At the number six spot, it was another three set match for UNM as Carl Ho took on Spencer Simon. Carl Ho won the first set 6-3, while Simon took the second set 6-4. Carl Ho showed that perseverance is key as he kept on fighting, winning with a final score of 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.

The final score does not accurately reflect just how much of a battle this entire match was for both teams. SDSU may have won 4-3 but it was not handed to them willingly as one can see by four singles matches going to three sets.
