    Against Pepperdine (0-0) ... The Wave hold a 6-4 lead in the series. The teams have not faced one another since Sept. 7, 2002 at the Arizona Invitational in Tucson. Pepperdine won the match, 3-0.

    Against Tulane (0-0) ... It will be just the second meeting between the Lobos and the Green Wave. Tulane beat UNM, 3-2 in the second round of the Arizona Invitational on Sept. 20, 2009.

    Against No. 4 Stanford (0-0) ... New Mexico will be hosting the highest ranked team at Johnson Center since No. 9 Utah came in for an MWC match on Nov. 4, 2006. The Cardinal hold a 6-0 lead in the series. The two teams last met on Sept. 3, 2000 at the Johnson Center.

    Next Week ... The Lobos will play three matches in the Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Classic, Sept. 2-4 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Thursday's opponent is Michigan State, followed by No. 10 USC on Friday and host No. 5 Hawai'i on Saturday. The USC and Hawaii matches will be televised in Hawaii.


    • The Lobos are receiving votes in the AVCA Top 25 Coaches Poll (15). 2010 opponents in the preseason poll include - #4 Stanford, #5 Hawaii, #10 USC, #17 Colorado State, RV UC Santa Barbara, RV Utah, RV Pepperdine, RV New Mexico State, RV San Diego State and RV Michigan State. UNM was picked 4th in the MWC Preseason Poll. Senior setter Jade Michaelsen was named to the All-MWC Preseason Team.

    • Senior Taylor Hadfield became the sixth Lobo to receive All-America honors in December 2009. Hadfield joins the joins the prestigious list of New Mexico All-Americans - Karen Saavedra-Warnock (2nd team; 1988), Pauline Manser (1st team; 1990 and 1991), Maria Gurreri (2nd team; 1990), Sharon Browning (2nd team; 1992) and Jeanne Fairchild (2008). Hadfield becomes the first returning All-American since Pauline Manser in 1991.

    About New Mexico (0-0, 0-0 MWC; RV) ... The Lobos made their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 1994 in 2009, a drought of 14 years between trips to the national post-season. It was UNM's eighth trip to the NCAA Tournament (1981, `88, `90, `91, `92, `93, `94 and 2009) ... New Mexico is receiving votes in the 2010 AVCA Preseason Poll ... UNM will face 10 teams receiving votes in the preseason poll this seaosn ... The Lobos were picked fourth in the 2010 Mountain West Conference Preseason Poll, eight points out of second ... Senior setter Jade Michaelsen was named to the All-MWC Preseason Team ... Michaelsen and senior outside hitter Lisa Meeter are the team captains for 2010.

    About Pepperdine (2009 - 16-11, 9-5 WCC; RV) ... Wave head coach Nina Matthies begins her 28th season on the Pepperdine bench in Albuquerque on Friday night. Matthies is 510-305 in 27 seasons at the only school where she has been a head coach. The Wave have made 20 appearances in the NCAA Tournament with the last just two seasons ago in 2008. Pepperdine returns four starters and the libero, including 2009 AVCA honorable mention All-American Kim Hill. Hill, a junior middle blocker, was named to the All-WCC preseason squad. As a sophomore, Hill led the WCC with a .425 attack percentage that ranked fifth nationally.

    About Tulane (2009 - 18-10, 12-4 C-USA) ... The Green Wave made their second consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 2009, earning an at-large berth after a third-place finish in Conference USA. Head coach Sinisa Momic is in his second season at Tulane. Senior Lindsey Shepard makes a return trip to her hometown this weekend. The Albuquerque Academy graduate enters the season among the Tulane career leaders in several categories including blocks and attack percentage.

    About Stanford (2009 - 23-8, 14-4 Pac-10; No. 4) ... The Cardinal were NCAA Regional semifinalists in 2009 in their 29th appearance in the national postseason tournament. John Dunning is in his 10th season as the head coach at Stanford and 26th as a head coach. Stanford is led by three AVCA All-Americans in Gabi Ailes, Alix Klineman and Cassidy Lichtman. Ailes is Stanford's all-time career digs leader and was a 2009 AVCA honorable mention All-American. Klineman, an outside hitter, is a three-time AVCA All-American - 2nd team in 2009 and 2007 and 1st team in 2008. Lichtman, an outside hitter/setter, led the team with 22 double-doubles, including 10 triple-doubles on her way to first team All-America honors.

    Jam Johnson - Sunday, Aug. 29 vs. Stanford ... The Lobos' annual Jam Johnson match will be on Sunday, Aug. 29 at 2 p.m. against Stanford in the final match of the MCM Elegante Lobo Classic. Admission will be $2 for youth and $3 for adults, a discount from the regular single match price of $3 for youth and $5 for adults.

    Playing The Best To Be The Best ... Over three seasons, head coach Jeff Nelson has built successful non-conference schedules to challenge his team. The team has stepped up to the challenge each year compiling three of the winningest non-conference schedules in program history each season. Now the challenge is even greater going into 2010! UNM will face three Top 10 programs and five 2009 NCAA Tournament participants in the first six matches of the season. Seven of the Lobos' 13 non-conference opponents are receiving votes in the AVCA Preseason Coaches Poll. The Lobos' 11-2 non-conference record in 2008 ranks as the third-best in program history following the final regular season matches against New Mexico State and Virginia Commonwealth. In 2009, the Lobos came close to that mark again with a 10-4 non-conference record that places eighth on the all-time list. UNM has a non-conference record of 30-9 in three seasons under the direction of Nelson.
