New Mexico Head Coach Don Flanagan
(on how good the team is this year):
"Well, we don't know that yet because its early in the season. That was a big (tonight) obviously, along with the Texas win. Both of those were quite good wins, but what they did tonight, at least defensively, was carry out a game plan and did a great on it. We got a lot of productivity from a lot of different people. We shot a good percentage. Against good teams like that, you have to shoot a good percentage. Then we defended them well enough to hold them to 28 percent (shooting). So we played good defense, worked our offense - it wasn't pretty all the time, but we worked it - we got pretty good looks and played an excellent game."
(on the Lobos' full-court press):
"I thought Timi (E-Nunu) did a great job in it. It wasn't always effective, but it had a disrupting force about it. It bothered them, it changed the tempo of the game, speeded up the tempo, put them in some tough situations in the backcourt. Then I thought our zone, late in the game, was excellent. They had a real hard time. We were doubling down low, then we were closing out on their shooters on the outside. Defensively, it was an excellent. If you hold them in the 40s, you're playing pretty good defense."
(on the magnitude of the win):
"It's a national kind of win. The national media is going to talk about it a little bit I would think. It's a big win for our program and maybe [the national media] thought the Texas win was a fluke. Now they probably feel like it wasn't a fluke - that if you could beat that team by 18 you're doing really well. [Minnesota] is a well-coached that really played well together. I know a lot of Minnesota players have grown up together. They played club ball together and they know each other very well. So for us to defend them that well was just a great effort."
Minnesota Head Coach Pam Borton
"I thought it was an extremely difficult game and I give a lot of credit to New Mexico. They came out on fire. They went on a run (midway through the first half) and we never recovered. We had a lack of poise and a lack of composure out there on offense. You have to give a lot of credit to New Mexico. They played a great game."
(on the Lobos' trapping defense):
"They did a lot of trapping down in the post, but we expected that. That's probably one thing we need to work on. We've got some young post players that haven't really gotten a lot of playing time and I think that's the next step - they need to get better with double teams on them."
(on The Pit crowd):
"When you have a crowd this size it's always a factor. They got great support here, it's a great women's basketball environment here and these fans need to continue coming out to support [New Mexico]. They are a great sixth player and this is a tough place to play. This is great to see this crowd for women's basketball."
