ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The University of New Mexico baseball team will host its annual Lobo baseball Alumni Weekend, Thursday, Oct. 22 thru Saturday, Oct. 24. Head coach Ray Birmingham along with several Lobo baseball alums have assembled a fun filled weekend that will include a social event, alumni baseball game, golf tournament and homecoming tailgate for the Lobo football Homecoming game against UNLV.

"We want to bring New Mexico baseball together on an annual basis," said Birmingham. "We've invited everyone. If I forgot you, call me because I want you here too. I want everyone in the New Mexico baseball community over the past five decades to come to this event and get involved. It's going to be our efforts together that is going to get the Lobos to Omaha."

To kick off the weekend, on Thursday, Oct. 22 at 6 p.m. Coaches Bar & Grill will host a Lobo Baseball Social Hour. Lobo baseball alumni are welcome to come and share stories and create new memories.

On Friday night under the lights will be the Lobo baseball Alumni game at 7 p.m. in the friendly confines of Isotopes Park. The Cherry squad will be captained by Thursday night's social hour host Ernie Blackstone ('78) and will feature Alumni from the 70's, 80's and 90's. Rick Ronquillo, ('83) director of Lobo Baseball Alumni Communications will lead the Silver squad which will consist of players from 2000 and above. The Cherry-Silver game will be highlighted by the return of the 2000 MWC Champion team and head coach Rich Alday. The team will be honored at the Lobo football game against UNLV on Saturday, Oct. 24.

Bob Lalicker ('49) has been named the alumni honorary captain and will throw out the first pitch for Friday nights game.

On Saturday, Oct. 24, the Lobo Baseball Golf Tournament will tee off at 9 a.m. at the Chamisa Hills Country Club. The tournament will feature some of the biggest names in Lobo and New Mexico baseball history. Former No.1 draft pick of the Montreal Expos Shane Andrews, a Carlsbad, N.M. native, as well as Duane Ward of the 2003 World Series Champion Toronto Blue Jays, a Farmington, N.M. native, will be in attendance. Former New York Yankees pitchers Christian Parker (Albuquerque) and Brandon Claussen (Roswell) are also scheduled to appear.

Former Lobos and current pro players, Brian Cavazos-Galvez, Mike Brownstein, Jordan Pacheco, Scott Gracey, Danny Ray Herrera and others will also be in attendance for the weekend.
