In the big state of Texas, there lays a city just 290 miles east of Albuquerque called Amarillo. In this city you'll find a place by the name of Palo Duro High School, where their girls' basketball team has produced two brand new Lobos by the names of Brianna Taylor and Jasmine Patterson. Today we'll introduce you to Brianna Taylor.

Born and raised in Amarillo, Texas, Brianna has spent the past 11 years of her life playing basketball with Jasmine. "We've known each other our whole lives because our parents are good friends," Brianna said. Jasmine and Brianna have been playing since the second grade together. They even had 6:30 a.m. workouts for high school basketball, so the adjustment to UNM summer workouts was not a big one.

Brianna helped lead the Palo Duro Lady Dons to a 23-11 winning record, averaging 13 points, five steals, and six assists per game. She also has been on the All-State and All-District teams every year since her sophomore season and was awarded the Newcomer of the Year her sophomore year. Just after playing a few games of pick-up with Brianna, it is easy to see where those stats and awards come from. Brianna is very quick and has a great eye for reading the court. "I hope to add quickness to the team. I think I'm pretty fast," Brianna said. That she is, folks, that she is.

Brianna's life as a UNM Lobo began on June 7, 2010 when she attended her first two college classes, Public Speaking and Sociology. "They were pretty easy. I liked them a lot though because some of the other girls were in there," said Brianna. All five of the freshmen took the same classes, worked out together, and lived together for the first four weeks of their college experience. "The dorms were fun. We had a lot of fun," said Brianna. Who knows what those crazy freshmen were up to in all their spare time!
