The 34th-ranked University of New Mexico women's golf team moved up a spot to 7th place after two rounds of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic. The Lobos shaved 13 shots from their first-round total, getting around the par-72, 6,219-yard Coco Beach Golf Course in 12-over 300.
UNM has a 36-hole score of 613 in a field of 16 teams. While they trail 17th-ranked Purdue by 21 strokes for the team lead, the Lobos are just three shots from fourth place held by North Carolina State at 610.
Junior Jodi Ewart continues to be the top Lobo. She shot a 2-over 74 for the second straight day, and is tied for ninth place at 4-over 148. Ewart, however, is just two shots from the lead held by four golfers: Laura Nochta (Indiana), Maria Hernandez (Purdue), Lauren Doughtie (North Carolina State) and Prisela Campbell (TCU).
Senior Morgan Grantham posted the Lobos' top round of the tournament so far, firing a 1-over 73. She is tied for 15th at 150.
Junior Britney Choy is tied for 39th at 157 after shooting a 76 today. Freshman Rebecca Hellbom shot 77 and is tied for 46th at 158. Senior Mikaela Backstedt is tied for 65th at 162. She shot an 80 today. Freshman Sarah Salvo, who is competing as an individual, had an 80, giving her a two-day total of 162.
Final round action begins Tuesday at 5:30 a.m. Mountain Time.
