ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- The University of New Mexico swept the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association Skier of the Week awards for their performances at the Jade Enterprises/New Mexico Invitational on Feb. 5-6 in Red River and Taos. Anne Cecilie Brusletto and Thomas Schwab were named for women's and men's Alpine, while Polina Ermoshina and Pierre Niess earned the women's and men's Nordic nod. Once an RMISA student-athlete earns the honor, they are not eligible for the weekly award for the rest of the season.
Brusletto, a freshman from Norway, won the women's slalom and took second in the giant slalom. Schwab, a junior from Austria, took second in the giant slalom and third in the slalom on the men's side.
Ermoshina, a senior from Russia, won the women's classic and finished fourth in the freestyle. Niess, a freshman from France, took second in the men's classic and third in the freestyle, part of the Lobos 1-2-3-4 finish in the freestyle race.
Earlier this season senior Malin Hemmingsson and sophomore Petter Brenna took RMISA Alpine honors after the Utah Invitational, and junior Martin Kaas took the men's Nordic award after the Montana State Invitational.
The Lobos are currently ranked No. 1 in the nation and have won two of three meets this season. UNM returns to action on Feb. 19-20 at the Nevada Invitational in Reno.
