Lobo Softball beats Bradley, 14-5 in five innings

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The University of New Mexico softball team closed out the Children's Hospital Invitational with a 1-2 record after beating Bradley, 14-5 in five innings Sunday afternoon at University Field. Jessica Lujan-Dresslar led the Lobos going 2-for-2 with four RBIs, two runs scored, and two stolen bases. Erin Brandow also came up big for the Lobos notching her second home run of the season with a three-run shot.

The Lobos started the game scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. Leadoff hitter Cristin Anderson walked and got to third after Stefanie Carramusa reached on an error by pitcher Mackenzie Camp. Carrumsa stole second before Cassandra Kalapsa flied out to center field on a sacrifice to score Anderson. With Carramusa on third, Jessica Garcia also flied out to center field on a sacrifice to score Carramusa to get the Lobos second run.

Bradley answered back in the bottom of the first inning, when Amanda Clack singled to right field and scored with a single by Janay Mitchell. Kate Singler scored the second run for the Braves with a single to center field to tie the game, 2-2.

New Mexico answered back in the top of the second when Lujan-Dresslar led off the inning with a walk. Lujan-Dresslar advanced to second on a stolen base and later advanced to third on a wild pitch. Hodgins walked to put runners on first and third. Erin Brandow next up to bat homered to right center to score three runs and put the Lobos ahead 5-2.

The Lobos notched three more runs in the top of the third from a double by Lujan-Dresslar, batting in Garcia and Hodgins. Lujan-Dresslar scored later in the inning off of a balk by Amanda Clack to end the inning, 8-2

The Braves scored two more runs in the bottom of the third, with Mitchell on base after being hit by pitch, Singler doubled to score the run. Jackie Roth singled to center field to score the second run of the inning to make the score 8-4.

New Mexico scored four more runs in the fourth inning and two more in the fifth inning to lead 14-4. Kaela DeBroeck earned the win for the Lobos and is now 4-5 on the season. The Lobos improved to 9-12 on the season.

Bradley scored one run in the bottom of the fifth to end the game 14-5. Camp received the loss for the Braves and is now 0-2 on the season. Singler led Bradley going 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. The Braves fell to 9-9 on the season.

The Lobos travel to Fullerton, Calif. Mar. 17-21 for the Judi Garman Classic, where they will play five games.
