PROVO, Utah--The fourth-seeded University of New Mexico women's soccer team fell 1-0 to the top-seeded No. 8 BYU Cougars this afternoon in the semifinals of the Mountain West Conference Tournament. The Lobos gave the defending champs all they could handle in a close match. New Mexico finishes the season at 13-5-3. No. 8 BYU improves to 17-2-2 on the season.
The Lobos went stride-for-stride with the Cougars and controlled the momentum for the majority of the match. New Mexico applied constant pressure the entire match and were awarded six corner kicks off of BYU miscues. The Lobos took nine shots on the MWC's top defense and forced first team all-MWC keeper McKinzie Olson to make four saves.
The Lobo defense kept the top offense in the MWC to only 11 shots with two on goal.
The Lobos were led offensively by sophomore forward Zaneta Wyne, who had two shots in the match.
