Three Lobos Named All-Mountain West Conference

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Mountain West Conference announced its 2005-06 women's basketball awards today. The league's nine women's head coaches picked the all-conference teams, as well as the coach, player, newcomer and defensive awards. The University of New Mexico women's basketball team placed one player on each of the three teams.

Sophomore Dionne Marsh was named first team All-MWC. Marsh leads New Mexico in scoring at 15.4 ppg. and is third in rebounding at 4.6 rpg. In MWC play Marsh has posted similar numbers at 15.4 ppg. and 4.6 rpg. Marsh has led the Lobos in 16 times this season and has scored in double figures 25 times this season. Marsh is the single season leader in UNM history in free throws made and attempted at 153-213. Marsh was a third team selection last season and a preseason first team selection this season.

Junior guard Katie Montgomery was named second team All-MWC. Montgomery is second on the team in scoring and rebounding at 10.9 ppg. and 4.7 rpg. and is first in assists at 3.4 apg. In MWC play, Montgomery has shot an outstanding 48.2 percent from the field and an even better 51.3 percent from the 3-point line. Montgomery currently leads the country in 3-point field goal percentage at 48.6 percent and is fourth in the country in assists to turnover ratio at 2.68. Montgomery was an honorable mention all-conference member last year.

Senior guard Abbie Letz was named third team All-MWC. Letz leads the Lobos in rebounding at 7.5 rpg., is third on the team in scoring at 10.4 ppg. and is second in assists at 2.5 apg. Letz leads the team in double-doubles this season with six, while only posting one in her first three seasons. In the MWC, Letz ranks third in rebounding and 10th in 3-point field goal percentage. This is Letz first all-conference honor.
