SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The heavy-hitting 16th-ranked Oregon State Beavers handed the New Mexico softball team its fourth consecutive loss with a 8-3 win in its second meeting at the Commercial Capital Early Bird Tournament hosted by UC Santa Barbara.

Errors plagued both teams early as each team allowed an unearned run in the first inning. But it in the second inning that the Beavers pulled away. The Lobos slowly chipped away at the 6-1 lead, putting up one run in the bottom of the second and fifth. In the second, sophomore Amy Ray doubled to right center, bringing home classmate Becky Dover. In the fifth, junior Cassie Chavez singled to short, knocking in classmate Kristina Schmallen.

OSU's Adrienne Alo and Brianne McGowan sealed the win, each hitting solo home runs to left center in the seventh.
