COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.--- New Mexico midfielder Rachel Fields has been named Mountain West Conference Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week as announced today. It is the first award for Fields in her career and fifth for the Lobos this season.
Fields, a product of Amarillo, Texas, scored the match-tying goal in the second half of New Mexico's 1-1 double-overtime draw at TCU on Saturday night. With the tie against the Horned Frogs, the Lobos claimed their first-ever outright Mountain West regular-season title with 17 points. Fields, who also fired five shots on goal against TCU, has tallied six goals this season.
The Lobos now head to San Diego and the San Diego Sports Deck for the Mountain West Conference Tournament. The Lobos will have a first round bye as the top seed, and they will play the winner of the No. 4 Utah/No. 5 UNLV game on Thursday at noon in a game broadcast live on The Mtn. BYU earned the No. 2 seed and the other bye, and they will play the winner of the No. 3 San Diego State/No. 6 Wyoming game.
