COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - New Mexico sophomore catcher Mitchell Garver has been named Mountain West Conference Player of the Week. This is the first career weekly honor for Garver.
Garver went 9-for-20 (.450) with five extra-base hits, including a triple, in a one-game outing against New Mexico State and a four-game series with Creighton. The Albuquerque, N.M., product registered four multi-hit contests while starting every game behind the plate. Garver opened the week with a 3-for-4 performance against the Aggies, tallying two doubles, three runs scored and one run batted in. During the four-game series with the Bluejays, he had three multi-hit games, driving in eight runs and scoring three more. In addition to a pair of walks, he finished the week with slugging and on-base percentages of .750 and .500, respectively. In the field, Garver recorded 30 putouts with four assists from his catcher's position.
Garver, who played at La Cueva High School in Albuquerque, is the first Lobo to receive the honor this season.
