ALBUQUERQUE, N.M--University of New Mexico women's soccer student-athlete Alexis Ball was named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-American third team as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of Amercia. Ball is the second Lobo women's soccer player to earn academic all-American honors. In 2000 Jamie Minkler was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America third team.

"This is a tribute the teams high academic standards," said coach Kit Vela. "It's also an honor and a tribute to Alexis' hard work both on the field as well as in the classroom. This is an outstanding achievement for her and our team."

"It's an honor," said Ball. "We are here primarily for academics and to earn a degree. Being able to balance athletics and academics has always been important to me."

Ball is majoring in biology with a minor in Spanish and currently holds a 4.14 grade point average.
