Levin Advances to Round of 16 at 104th U.S. Amateur

MAMARONECK, N.Y. - Spencer Levin of the University of New Mexico men's golf team won his second round match and advanced to the round of 16 at the 104th U.S. Amateur at Winged Foot Golf Club West Course, while Madalitso Muthiya fell in the second round. Levin the14th seed won a tightly contested match over the 46th seed Frank Vana, Jr. of Worcester, Mass. Vana Jr. took a 1up lead after the eighth hole, but Levin fought back and took a 2up lead after a birdie on 15. Levin played even with Vana Jr. from there and took a 2 and 1 win. Muthiya the 53rd seed fell in another 20-hole match to the 21st seed Tyler Docking of Overland Park, Kan. Docking took a 2up lead after birdies on the second and third hole and led throughout the match. Muthiya down one on 18 won the hole with a par to force extra holes for the second consecutive match. Docking birdied the 20th hole to advance. Levin will play the 35th seed Danny Green from Jackson, Tenn., later this afternoon at 12:15 p.m. (MST).
