LAS VEGAS, Nev. --- New Mexico senior Kristine Sweat scored two goals to highlight a 2-1 victory over Oakland Saturday in the UNLV adidas Classic held in Las Vegas, Nev. UNM outshot the Grizzlies 17-3 in the match and improved to 2-1 with the victory.
Sweat gave UNM an early lead in the match, after scoring her first goal of the season in the 22nd minute. Sweat found the net from five yards out on an assist from Junior Amber Wetsch.
The Lobos dominated the first half of action. UNM outshot the Grizzlies 10-0 in the first period and took six corner kicks compared to none by OU.
The Grizzlies wasted little time in the second half, tying the game on their first shot of the game in the 47th minute. Kristi Evans scored the goal for OU on a shot from 22 yards out. The Grizzlies only managed two more shots in the final 42 minutes.
Sweat struck again in the 55th minute with the game-winner. The goal was her second of the game and sealed the victory for UNM. Junior Terryn Granados had the assist on the final goal.
In the game, UNM had eight corner kicks compared to one for OU.
