Each week during the 2008 season a different Lobo will fill you in on what is going on in the life of the New Mexico Volleyball Team. Look for a new blog each Monday morning throughout the season.

August 25 - Lisa Meeter, sophomore outside hitter, Colorado Springs, Colo.

Hi everyone!

I hope you are all excited about Lobo Volleyball starting as much as I am. We have all been working hard and are getting in the mindset of having an amazing year.

With one week of preseason down our team began the second week of preseason with our usual double days and three-a-days with added weight training throughout the week. Our days have literally consisted of eating, sleeping, and playing volleyball.

But along with all the hard work the chemistry and bond of the team is just growing stronger. The freshmen are also blending in really well with the team and the strength and depth of the team has really come out within the past week.

Thursday was also a very exciting day for our seniors because it was their last double day of volleyball practice ever! Jeanne, Sarah and Gayle made sure we all knew about it.

Well along with the end of preseason also came the end of staying in the hotel for some of the girls. On August 19th we were able to start moving into the dorms. Many of our nights and free hours between practices were spent decorating and setting up our new rooms.

Taylor Hadfield and I are roommates for the second year in a row and love being "roomies." The other girls are also paired up in dorms close by so our team still remains living close to one another, which makes for more fun memories together.

With the start of school and the season coming at a fast rate our team spent this Friday at the Student Union Building or SUB, spreading the word about our volleyball matches at a huge gathering for all students. We were able to talk, hang out, and get to know many groups of people seen on campus.

In the SUB there was tons of food and fun and the atmosphere was great. In one of the corners UNM had set up an area where groups could play the video game 'Rockband'. So Amy Wong, Anna Lehne, and I all decided to put our Rockband skills to the test. With Amy rocking on drums, Anna hitting up the guitar, and me breaking it down singing, we were quite a funny scene in the middle of a little crowd. Amy was banging her head to the beat while playing her fake drums, Anna was strumming her guitar, and I was dancing around singing, making the rest of our team laugh and cheer as we gained Rockband stardom. I think our hearts are stilll pounding from our performance.

To end our week, we kicked off the season with an exhibition match against the Alumni. We started Saturday off with our first pass and serve session of the season, then watched the alumni practice, and joined them for a great lunch in Johnson Center. We were able to sport our new long-sleeved jerseys and run out to our familiar Lobo Fight song. Throughout the match many people were able to see court time and got used to playing in front of a crowd. We beat our alumni in three sets and played an extra set for practice. It was a nice start to get a victory on our home court. Just one of many to come.

The alumni game will be only the beginning to the intensity and the drive our team all shares together. I know we all want more and are striving to have the greatest season of Lobo history. Well until next time... Thanks again for all of your support of Lobo Volleyball!

Go Lobos!
