The University of New Mexico men's soccer team scored a pair of wins over Air Force and Fort Lewis in Spring season action today. The Lobos shutout the Falcons 3-0 and the SkyHawks 2-0 on Robertson Field in their first matches of the offseason. Rising senior Chris Wright tallied three of the five goals for UNM today.
Sophomore-to-be Michael Reed got things going for New Mexico in the first game with a strike in the 11th minute against Air Force. He was assisted on the play by freshman Lance Rozeboom. Rozeboom is a part of UNM's incoming recruiting class, having just enrolled in January. Wright upped the score to 2-0 two minutes later with a goal off an assist from classmate Jack Smithson. UNM added to its total in the 50th minute when Wright scored again for the 3-0 lead. Wright, the 2007 MPSF Player of the Year and the Lobos' leading scorer in each of the last two seasons, is continuing to improve could be in for a spectacular senior campaign.
UNM scored another shutout in the afternoon contest against Fort Lewis. Rozeboom broke the ice in the 12th minute with a score from junior-to-be Justin Davis. Davis tallied another assist in the 30th minute when he sent a pass into Wright who put home his third goal of the game.
The Lobos will be in action next weekend when they travel to North Carolina for matches against defending NCAA Champion Wake Forest and perennial ACC power Duke. UNM faces the Demon Deacons in Winston-Salem on Friday, April 11, at 5:00 p.m. (M.D.T.). The Lobos take on the Blue Devils in Durham on Sunday, April 13, at 10:00 a.m. (M.D.T.).
