ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- The New Mexico softball team will battle Seattle Thursday in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. The Lobos (9-14) face the Redhawks (6-9) at Logan Field Thursday and continue the spring break road trip. New Mexico closes out the week with a three-game series at Washington starting Saturday. All the games will be available on live stats on www.GoLobos.com.
New Mexico freshman Shenise Cox hit .500 in five games over the weekend and against four nationally-ranked opponents. Cox went 6-for-12 at the plate with a run scored and a double at the Judi Garman Classic. She started all five games during the tournament and had two stolen bases. Cox is on an eight-game hitting streak after the weekend and had two hits Friday against No. 13 Arizona. This season, Cox has started every game and is hitting .333 through the first 23 games.
The Lobos are 9-14 on the year and recently upset No. 20 DePaul Saturday in the Judi Garman Classic. UNM went 1-4 in the Garman Classic last weekend but face four nationally-ranked teams.
Lobo freshman Shenise Cox is on an eight-game hitting streak heading into the March 19 doubleheader at Seattle. Cox hit .500 last weekend in five games and brought her season average up to .333. Cox has started every game this season in the outfield.
New Mexico has six players hitting over .300 and has a team average of .307. Senior Samantha Hughes is leading the team at the plate with a .397 average. Hughes has scored a team-high 19 runs and leads the team with three home runs.
Redhawks are 6-9 on the season and led by Lisa Hill. Hill is hitting .415 with four home runs and 12 RBI. Seattle has four hitters batting over .300 and has won three of its last five games. Hannah Klein is the ace of the pitching staff. Klein is 5-3 on the season with a 3.58 ERA.
New Mexico will open a three-game series with Washington Saturday with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. MT. The series finale is set for 1 p.m. MT Sunday. Gametracker will be available for all the
