New Mexico vs. Utah
New Mexico Head Coach Don Flanagan
On shooting and confidence
"Looking back at, shooting percentages is our Achilles heel. We're shooting more than our opponents and shooting a far poorer percentage. We have to be able to make shots. I thought we defended well enough to win. We did a good job on Whipple and did a decent job on their post player inside. Our defense is good enough to win but our offence is not good enough to win. It's hard for me to figure out as far as getting them more confident and shooting better. We just haven't had anybody step up and make a shot. Of course missing Amy, you have to think that we played a pretty decent game. We would've had fewer turnovers and another three-point shooter. Given all of that we had an opportunity to win the game."
On defense and post players
"There were a couple things we did pretty well. Our defense bothered them a bit early and then we mixed it up a little bit. I thought our man-to-man was quite good to keep them at that low amount of points. We do have to get the ball inside and our post players are not posting up or playing efficiently down low. We have to do a better job of our post players scoring and also getting the ball inside to post players."
Utah Head Coach Elaine Elliott
On today's game against New Mexico:
"Each win helps a lot. For us to come out and play well after a long Wednesday game is pivotal. Coming back and playing well today is a big psychological victory for us. Everyone in this league is really equal and every game has been so close. We have been the fortunate ones and today was big. In every game you can look back and point out players who made plays. Through the years we've had someone step up."
On how the players responded to today after Wednesday's game:
"Some of these kids are tough and at times a lot tougher than the coaches. The team felt good today. We took it easy after Wednesday's game but had a chance to get back on the floor and work on something."
On the play of senior Kalee Whipple:
"Kalee Whipple rebounded extremely well on the defensive end. After you put up 45 points, you feel like you have used up all the good shots. She struggled shooting the ball but did many other things for us."
On Amy Beggin not playing:
"Anytime you lose a player of Amy Beggin's caliber it matters. I feel sorry for her because I know she didn't want to miss that game. We were surprised to hear her being injured and it's never good for any of us to miss our top player."
