COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Junior All-America candidate Rafael Neda has been named the Mountain West Conference Player of the Week as announced by the conference office today. Neda went 6-for-11, hitting .545 in a three-game series against conference foe BYU on April 8-10. Neda had six RBIs, three runs scored and two tape-measure home runs. Both home runs were in game three's 10-9 victory. This is Neda's first career MWC Player of the Week Award and the third for a Lobo this season.
"Winning this award is an honor for me," said Neda. "This is my first time winning the award in my career as a Lobo and hopefully I can get a couple more during the rest of the season. All week I worked really hard with the coaches on my swing. I just tried to put everything I learned last week into the games against BYU."
Neda increased his batting average 19 points to .355 and is now ranked fourth in the MWC with 34 RBIs.
The Lobos travel to Fayetteville, Ark., to take on No. 9/8 Arkansas on April 13-14. For more information, visit www.GoLobos.com.
