Colorado Springs, Colo. - Jordan Craig's honors keep coming as she was named the Mountain West's Offensive Player of the Week after a three-goal weekend, including the tying and winning goals in a 2-1 overtime win over Texas.
The conference also selected San Diego State senior defender/midfielder Tiffany Hurst as the MW's Defensive Players of the Week. This is the first career weekly award for Craig and second for Hurst.
Jordan scored her first three goals of the season as New Mexico swept both matches of the Time Warner Cable Texas Invitational over the weekend. Against SMU on Friday, the Amarillo, Texas, native netted her first goal of the season, and UNM's third in an 11-minute span, en route to the 4-1 win. In Sunday's match with host Texas, Craig drove home a rebound with 36 seconds left in regulation to force a 1-1 tie and send the game to overtime. In the fourth minute of second overtime, the senior forward scored on a breakaway to secure the 2-1 victory. Craig, who missed the 2011 season with a knee injury, came off the bench in both games.
Craig now has four career game-winners, moving into a tie for eighth on the all-time UNM list.
"I'm so thrilled for Jordan," said head coach Kit Vela. "She is an incredible individual and she made her own fortune. She has worked very hard coming back from her injury."
Craig was named the Offensive MVP of the Time Warner Cable Texas Invitational. She currently leads the Lobos in scoring with her three goals, and she has already matched her career-high for goals in a season. She scored three in 2010 during her junior season. Craig was also on the All-Tournament team along with Lauren Irwin and Rachel Montoya. Kelli Cornell was named the Goalkeeper MVP of the Invitational.
