ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.--- New Mexico senior Jade Michaelsen and junior Kelly Williamson were named to the CoSIDA/ESPN Academic All-District Volleyball Teams on Thursday, Nov. 4. Three Academic All-District teams are chosen in each district, with those on the All-District first teams placed on the national ballot for Academic All-American consideration.
Williamson was named to the First Team in district VI of the University Division. She joins players from Southern Methodist, Oklahoma, Rice, Southern Mississippi, Mississippi State, and Stephen F. Austin.
Williamson came to New Mexico from Buenos Aires, Argentina, and is currently studying Conservation Biology. She is a two-time MWC All-Academic and Scholar Athlete recipient. Williamson's 228 kills and 2.39 kills-per-set rank her third in the Mountain West Conference. She also holds a seat as a senator in the Associated Students of the University of New Mexico student government, and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. In addition, Williamson is a finalist for the UNM President's Award for reducing the team's carbon footprint. She was nominated for the CoSIDA/ESPN All-Academic Award last year as well.
Michaelsen received Third Team honors in district VI of the University Division, along with players from Texas,Mcneese State, Baylor, and Oklahoma.
Michaelsen is native of Tucson, Ariz., and is pursuing a degree in Business Administration. The senior leads the team with 800 assists, and is third in the MWC with 10.98 assists-per-set. She is a three time MWC All-Academic and MWC Scholar Athlete. She has been nominated for the CoSIDA/ESPN All-Academic Award for the past three years.
