ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- New Mexico women's basketball takes on UNLV Saturday inside The Pit at 7 p.m. Saturday will be Pack The Pit night for New Mexico. UNM is 10-9 overall and 2-4 in the Mountain West Conference while the Rebels are 6-13 on the year and 2-4 in conference action. The game is available via all-access and on the radio at 610 AM. Pack the Pit tickets can be purchased at (505) 925-LOBO or online at www.GoLobos.com.

Radio: 610 AM (The Sports Animal) - Joe Behrend and Hazel Tull-Leach will call the action from courtside at The Pit.

Against UNLV: This will be the 45th meeting between New Mexico and UNLV. The series began in 1975, but took a 14-year hiatus from 1984-98. UNLV holds the series lead at 21-13, but the Lobos are 9-4 at The Pit. The series is tied at 11 since it was resumed in 1998.

Up Next: The Lobos go on the road for their next two games - Feb. 6 at Colorado State, and Feb. 10 at No. 15/16 Wyoming. Game time in Fort Collins is set for 7 p.m. The CSTV game in Laramie will tip at 3 p.m.

QUICK HITS

• Crowd Factor ... Lobo women's basketball crowds at The Pit have ranked in the NCAA Top Five in average attendance for the past seven years. The Lobos cracked the 8,000 average mark for the first time this season following the Dec. 18 crowd of 8,711 against Stanford. UNM is averaging 8,135 fans in 13 home games of the season and had three consecutive games of 8,700+ in attendance from Dec. 15-21. The largest crowd at The Pit this season was 8,975 against BYU on Jan. 26.

• PACK THE PIT ... The Lobos are hoping to match a feat that has only occurred five times in women's hoops history - PACK THE PIT. Capacity crowds of 18, 018 have filled The Pit against UNLV two times - Feb. 1, 2003 and Jan. 31, 2004 - the most recent record-setters. Last season's Pit crowd of 13,849 against UNLV on Jan. 27 was the largest home crowd of the 2006-07 season. Special ticket prices are $4 for adults and $2 for children.

• Think Pink At FANZZ And LIDS ... UNM has teamed up with FANZZ and LIDS stores at the Cottonwood and Coronado Malls, for the annual Women's Basketball Coaches Association "Think Pink" Breast Cancer Awareness campaign. For every pink Lobo hat purchased at LIDS, customers will receive four tickets to the "Think Pink" game, Feb. 13 vs. San Diego State. At FANZZ, customers who make a purchase of $15 worth of pink Lobo apparel will also receive four tickets to the Think Pink game.

Cherry Crush At The Pit ... Back by popular demand, Cherry Crush Night at The Pit will be Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 7 p.m. when the Lobos host Air Force. The UNM Bookstore will be selling Cherry Crush t-shirts, beginning Feb. 2 for $9.95. Purchase of a Cherry Crush t-shirt include a free ticket to the men's game vs. TCU on Feb. 16 and a free ticket to the women's game vs. Air Force on Feb. 20.

Last Time Out - vs. BYU - L, 41-38 ... Dionne Marsh scored 11 points for New Mexico, as the Lobos lost to BYU, 41-38, Saturday afternoon at The Pit. The Lobos fell to 10-9 overall and 2-4 in the Mountain West Conference. The Lobos took their first lead of the game at 10-9 at the 14:01 minute mark off of a steal from Brandi Kimble. There were a total of five lead changes in the first half. BYU hit three 3-pointers inside of seven minutes to play in the first half to go on a 9-4 run. Marsh had a couple of buckets down the stretch including a 3-point play at the 1:18 mark to cut the Cougar lead to three points at 25-22 going into halftime. The Cougars extended their lead to five to start the second half. The lead would switch two more times until Angela Hartill hit a 3-pointer to knot the score at 31 apiece with 14:18 left to play. The Lobos finally took the lead in the second half off a bucket by Eileen Weissmann at the 13:29 mark making it 33-31. This would be the last time the Lobos would lead for the rest of the game. BYU hit a 3-pointer at the 11:31 mark to help the Cougars hold on for the victory. New Mexico would pull within three points, and Amy Beggin missed a 3-point shot from the corner with an opportunity to tie the game in the final 20 seconds left to play. The Lobos shot 24.1 percent from the floor for the game, and 15.8 percent from behind the arc for the game. Beggin tied a career high with five steals in the losing effort for the Lobos. Marsh was the only Lobo to reach double-figures in the game.

About UNLV (6-13, 2-4) ... The Rebels, under the direction of head coach Regina Miller, are coming into The Pit with a four-game losing streak, following Tuesday night's 56-38 loss at home to TCU. UNLV is led by all-MWC player Sequoia Holmes. Holmes leads the league in scoring with 17.9 points per game, is fifth in the league in rebounding at 7.2 boards per game and leads the squad with 53 assists and 48 steals. Shamela Hampton, the only other Rebel to start every game, averages 11.1 points and 7.1 boards per game and leads the team in blocked shots with 22.

Mountain West Conference Tournament Bus Trip ... The UNM Lobo Club is sponsoring a bus trip to the 2008 Mountain West Conference Tournament in Las Vegas, March 11-15. Cost of the trip is $575 and includes bus transportation, hotel accommodations (double occupancy), and all-session game tickets. Deposits are due by Friday, Feb. 8. RPI Watch Underway ... This is the time of year that teams hoping for a post-season NCAA bid start watching their RPI as much as the national polls put out by the Associated Press and ESPN, USA Today and the coaches. The official NCAA RPI reports were first released in early January. There are at least three other unofficial RPI rankings that teams keep an eye on late in the season - collegerpi.com, The Women's RPI Report, and Jeff Sagarin.
