LAS VEGAS --- New Mexico softball fell to UNLV, 8-6, Sunday in the final game of the doubleheader at Eller Media Stadium. The Rebels had two come-from-behind victories to sweep the Lobos. UNM goes to 18-19 overall and 7-5 in the Mountain West Conference, while UNLV moved to 34-24 and 9-5 in the league.

UNM opened the top of the first inning with a run on an RBI single by sophomore Analise Rubalcava. Rubalcava's single through the left side allowed sophomore Samantha Hughes to score.

UNLV capitalized on a walk in the second inning scoring two runs. Caitlyn Paus had an RBI double in the inning, while senior Brittany Freight collected an RBI with a single.

The Rebels pushed across two more runs in the third on a two-run homer by Kendall Fearn.

UNM loaded the bases with two outs in the fourth inning setting the stage for Allen. Allen blasted her first home run of the year to left center field and gave the Lobos a 5-4 lead. It was Allen's fourth career homer and the teams 25th of the year.

Paus scored the tying run in the fourth inning for UNLV after hitting a triple to left field. Paus managed to score after being caught in a run down.

The Lobos regained the lead in the fifth on an RBI double by junior Lindsey Elcess to score Hughes. Hughes was hit by a pitch to leadoff the inning and proceeded to steal second and third before the double. UNM loaded the bases with two outs but left them stranded.

UNLV led off the bottom of the sixth with a double to right field by Brittany Meade. Meade eventually tied the game on a single to left by Freight. Freight came around to score on an RBI double by Kelli Fangonilo. Fangonilo scored on a single by Alyssia De La Torre. The Rebels led 8-6 heading into the seventh.

The Lobos couldn't get anything going in the seventh and dropped both games of the doubleheader.

Freshman Tori Rogers made her sixth start of the year and went 3 1/3 innings. Rogers gave up four hits and four runs. Senior Caley Peterson came on in relief in the fourth and took the loss. Peterson falls to 1-6 after giving up four runs on five hits in 2 2/3 innings. Heather Slettvett gets the win and goes to 9-9.

The Lobos return home to play its final eight regular season games. UNM continues MWC action Thursday against BYU in a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Gametracker and all access video will be available at www.GoLobos.com.
