Lobos Lose Heartbreaker To UTEP

El Paso, Texas- Anya Villanueva battled at the No.1 singles position to earn a win over UTEP's Dariya Abdrakhmanova. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough as the Lobos drop a tough loss to the Miners (8-8), 4-3 today at the El Paso Tennis Club. This was the first loss to UTEP in the two teams long history. The 4-3 loss is the smallest margin of the defeat the Lobos have seen this season.

Villanueva dominated in her first set winning, 6-1. She lost the second set in a tiebreaker and came back to take the third at 6-4. The junior improves to 3-6 in dual play.

Michaela Oldani grabbed her first singles win of the season over UTEP's Veronika Makashov in three sets. After losing the first set in a tiebreaker, 6-7 (5-7) she came back to win the next two, 6-4, 6-3.

Freshman Kristin Eggleston earned her second singles win of the spring. Eggleston defeated Ximena Fuentes, 6-2, 6-4 at the No. 5 singles position.

The doubles duo of Amy Shipperd and Villanueva came away with their first win of the dual season. The duo dominated Alexandra Glebova and Abdrakhmanova winning, 8-3.

New Mexico (1-9) will be back in action tomorrow as they take on the New Mexico State Aggies in Las Cruces, N.M. at 10 a.m.
