SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH- The University of New Mexico swimming and diving team were knocked down by Utah 146-90 on Friday night. Utah dominated the Lobos winning 11 of 13 events on their way to victory. The two events won by UNM were credited to the Lobo divers. Becca Barras, Tracey Berghian and Kaley Knafelc remained solid on the boards placing in the top three on the 1-meter and 3-meter dive.
On the 1-meter dive, MWC Diver of the Week Becca Barras earned the gold with a total of 254.60 points. Senior Tracey Berghian followed close behind with 252.70 points and sophomore Kaley Knafelc finished in third with 226.55 respectively.
On the 3-meter dive, Berghian grabbed the top spot (268.60) while Barras settled in at the second position with 238.95 points. Knafelc once again rounded out the top three finish. She placed third with 179.00 points.
Top swimmers in the pool for the Lobos were junior Nicole Overeem, sophomore Robyn Miller and senior Heather DiLuzio. Overeem had a second place finish in the 1000 free with a time of 10:47.46 while Miller had two third place finishes in the 200 free (1:56.39) and the 500 free (5:06.63). DiLuzio placed second in the 200 back with a time of 2:30.37.
The Lobos finish their weekend road trip today after they face defending MWC champion BYU in a dual-meet at noon.
