ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The Modrall Sperling Lobo Invitational is shaping up to be one of the finest early season indoor meets in the country once again this year. Some of the best collegiate track and field athletes in America will be competing in downtown Albuquerque this weekend with six top-25 teams, 36 nationally ranked athletes and eight ranked relay teams among the field of the two-day scored competition at the Convention Center. The meet gets underway on Friday at 6 p.m. (MST) and resumes at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Tickets are available at the door: $3 for adults, $2 for students and free for ages 5 and under.

The men's field is particularly impressive with No. 6 Baylor, No. 13 UTEP and No. 13 Texas A&M and 16th-ranked UCLA all among the Trackwire 25 (www.trackwire.com) power poll.

Twenty men listed among Trackwire's Dandy Dozen event power rankings are scheduled to compete on Friday and Saturday, including 11 in the sprint events. The nation's top-3 4x400-meter relay teams (Baylor, LSU and Texas A&M), along with the 11th-ranked BYU squad, will also go head-to-head in Saturday's final event.

The women's competition will be just as fierce with No. 3 LSU and ninth-ranked Texas A&M headlining the field. Sixteen ranked athletes and three of the country's top-10 4x400-meter relay teams are scheduled to compete. The 200-meter dash will be one of the marquee events of the meet with 10 nationally ranked athletes entered.

Host New Mexico, meanwhile, will be led by all-MWC honorees Ariel Burr (400m), Tiyana Peters (high jump), Leslie Luna (cross country), Jarrin Solomon (400m), Jeremy Johnson (5,000m), Josh Cosio (high jump), Juan Ortega (cross country) and its all-conference men's 4x400m relay team this weekend.

Last year's inaugural Modrall Sperling Lobo Invitational saw athletes record 44 NCAA provisional qualifying marks and seven automatic qualifying marks. An NCAA qualifying standard was surpassed in 27 of the 32 events during the non-scored meet.

Live results for the 2007 Modrall Sperling Lobo Invitational will be available at www.recordtiming.com.
