Sophomore men's Alpine skier Lars Loeseth was named to the 2005 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Men's At-Large 3rd Team today. Loeseth, a native of Oslo, Norway, earned All-American honors at the 2005 NCAA Championships in both the slalom and giant slalom events, posting a 3.99 grade-point-average in General Management.
Loeseth was one of the top Alpine skiers in the west last season, placing seventh in the slalom and fifth in the giant slalom at the NCAA Championships. He led the Lobos to a fourth place overall finish at the NCAAs. During the regular season, Loeseth ranked No. 1 in the giant slalom in the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association. He also ranked fifth in the RMISA slalom standings. Loeseth posted 11 top-10 finishes in six meets, including four wins.
The At-Large team is made up of student-athletes from skiing, swimming, golf, ice hockey, wrestling, lacrosse, tennis, rifle and fencing. This is Loeseth's first Academic All-American award.
