ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- New Mexico softball lost to UNLV 8-4 Sunday at Lobo Field. Lobo freshmen Shenise Cox and Jessica Lujan-Dresslar led the way with two hits a piece. UNLV hit two home runs in the fourth inning and pulled away for the series sweep. New Mexico fell to 11-32 overall and 2-9 in the Mountain West Conference. The Rebels improved to 29-17 and 5-6 in MWC action.

UNLV loaded the bases in the top of the first inning and scored its first run after UNM walked a run home.

The Lobos tied the game in the second inning. Sophomore Tianna George picked up an RBI on a sacrifice bunt that allowed Lujan-Dresslar to score.

The Rebels snapped the 1-1 tie in the fourth inning. Catcher Laura Briones led off the inning with a towering solo homer to right field. Brittany Bolinger followed that up with a three-run shot to left field. After the inning, UNLV led 5-1.

UNLV added two more runs in the fifth and extended their lead to 7-1 before the Lobo offense would come alive.

New Mexico loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth inning and it led to three runs. Junior Katie Gilmore walked with bases loaded and picked up an RBI. Senior Analise Rubalcava scored a run on a wild pitch and the Lobos plated their final run of the inning on a ground out.

UNLV scored its final run of the game in the seventh and won the game 8-4.

Lujan-Dresslar went 2-for-4 with a run scored while Cox was 2-for-3 in the game.

UNM threw three pitchers today with starter Danielle Castro taking the loss. Castro fell to 3-14 overall after going 3 1/3 innings allowing five runs on five hits. Freshman Kerry Hodgins pitched 2 1/3 innings and Rubalcava pitched one.

UNLV had 10 hits in the game with three players with multiple hits.

Stephanie Bregante (9-4) got the win after throwing 4 1/3 innings. Jessica O'Connor recorded the save after pitching the final 2 2/3 innings.
