DENTON, Texas - Oklahoma State beat the Lobos' softball team (9-7) 1-0 to take the crown at the North Texas/Betlin Round-Up Sunday evening at Denia Park. New Mexico finished in second place at the tournament with their 4-2 record.
The game's only run came in the top of the second with one out when OSU's Crystal Lee homered off of senior Amy Dumas. Dumas pitched a complete game, allowing just four hits and three walks while striking out three.
Getting the win, Neil pitched 4.1 innings for the Cowgirls. Kristen Neil gave up two hits, three walks and struck out six. Getting the save was Jessica Hoppock, surrendering two hits, one walk and striking out two over 2.2 innings.
Following the game, the 15-woman all-tournament team was announced with three Lobos making the cut. Juniors Ashley Perkins and Cassie Chavez and Kennedy were named to the team. Perkins was 3-0 with a 0.33 ERA. She pitched two complete game shutouts, allowed just one earned run and two walks while striking out 23 over 21 innings. Kennedy hit .276 going 5-18 with two runs scored. Chavez hit .222 going 4-18 with one home run, one double and three RBIs.
New Mexico returns to action this Friday when it plays a double header starting at 1 p.m. at New Mexico State.
