Lobo Softball Ends Homestand with UTEP

The University of New Mexico softball team (10-29) ends its homestand this week in non-conference action with a doubleheader against UTEP (28-18). The Lobos host the Miners on Tuesday starting at 3 p.m. MT at Lobo Field. GameTracker and live streaming will be provided for all games, visit GoLobos.com for more information.

The Lobos then travel to Utah for three games Thursday-Saturday. New Mexico will play a game at Utah on Thursday at 4 p.m. MT. The Lobos then head to BYU to play a game on Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m. MT.

New Mexico will have four games left in the season after playing BYU. The Lobos will head on the road to play Colorado State on May 8. New Mexico will finish up the season at home on May 13-15 against UNLV and San Diego State. The Lobos will recognize their seniors in the final game of the season on May 15 against San Diego State at 1 p.m. MT.

RECAPPING LAST WEEKEND for NEW MEXICO

The Lobo softball team went 0-2 last weekend against Colorado State. The Lobos lost a close 2-1 game on Saturday and ended the series with a 9-5 loss on Sunday. Senior Cristin Anderson led the Lobos at the plate this weekend going 5-for-10 with .500 batting average. Anderson had five RBIs, a home run, a double, and run on the weekend. In Saturday's game, Kerry Hodgins went 1-for-2, scoring the only run for the Lobos off of a sacrifice fly by Anderson. In Sunday's game, Jessica Garcia went 3-for-4 with a run and a stolen base. Cassandra Kalapsa and Shaunte Duarte each went 1-for-3 with a run.

SCOUTING UTEP

The first game on Tuesday against UTEP will be the eighth meeting between the two teams and the second meeting this season. The Lobos lead the series 5-2. The Miners won the last meeting, 7-5 on February 28 during the UTEP Invitational this season.

The Miners come into this weekend with a 28-18 record after going 2-1 last weekend against UAB. UTEP swept both games in the doubleheader on Saturday, winning 5-3 and 9-8 in extra innings. The Miners lost the final game on Sunday, 4-2. Camilla Carrera leads UTEP at the plate with a .368 batting average, 14 doubles and 34 RBIs. Stacie Townsend is hitting .363, leading the team with 10 home runs and 13 stolen bases.

Look to see Townsend in the circle for the Miners. Townsend has a 24-12 record with a 2.11 ERA and 287 strikeouts. Kelly Curran could also see time in the circle for UTEP. Curran has a 1-1 record with a 3.06 ERA. Rounding out the pitching staff for UTEP are Joanna Krienitz and Courtney Auger.
