ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- The University of New Mexico volleyball team is in training for the 2010 spring season. The Lobos, a 2009 NCAA Tournament team, will face some great teams during spring competition, including 2009 NCAA national runner-up Texas.

"We are really looking forward to spring and getting to play some great teams like Texas, Arizona, New Mexico State and Wichita State," said Lobo head coach Jeff Nelson. "We have been working hard at speeding up our offense and really going fast. It will be fun to see how we are able to execute. I am also looking forward to seeing how some of our younger players step up."

UNM is coming off one of its best seasons in volleyball history. The Lobos finished the season 20-10 and played No. 3 Hawai'i in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Los Angeles. The Rainbow Wahine advanced to the NCAA national semifinals. UNM will return 12 players, including AVCA honorable mention All-American Taylor Hadfield and All-Mountain West Conference setter Jade Michaelsen. The Lobos will have to replace graduates Anna Lehne, Rose Morris and Allie Suiter.

The Lobos will host their annual Spring Tournament on April 3 at the Johnson Center South Gym and will wrap the day up with their annual Awards Banquet at the MCM Elegante Hotel and Conference Center.

UNM also will be holding its annual Grass Bash fundraiser on May 1-2 at Johnson Fields.
