COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. --- The Mountain West Conference announced the 10th Anniversary Baseball Team today. Former Lobos Jordan Pacheco and Danny Ray Herrera were selected, by the voting panel, for their accomplishments during their UNM careers. Both have gone on to play in the professional ranks, including a few appearances by Herrera with the Reds in 2008.
The team was selected by a combined panel of media, institutional and conference personnel and on-line fan poll. In order to be eligible for consideration, candidates must have been a first team all-Mountain West selection at least once in their careers.
Jordan Pacheco was the 2007 Mountain West Conference Player of the Year and three-time all-Mountain West Conference second baseman. The Albuquerque native was an All-American in 2005 and 2007. Pacheco earned a MWC Player of the Week honor in his junior year, 2007, and was an Academic All-MWC as a freshman in 2005. He left after his junior season when he was selected in the 9th Round by the Colorado Rockies in the 2007 MLB Draft. In 2008, the Rockies organization moved Pacheco to catcher and he played for the Tri-City Devils.
Danny Ray Herrera made the most of his junior season in 2006 - MWC Co-Pitcher of the Year, All-America honors and MWC All-Tournament Team. The lefty from Odessa, Texas was a two-time all-Mountain West Conference pitcher and earned MWC Pitcher of the Week honors three times during his three-year career. Herrera was taken in the 45th round by the Texas Rangers in the 2006 MLB Draft and later traded to the Cincinnati Reds organization. Herrera became the sixth Lobo to make it to The Show when he made his MLB debut on June 3, 2008 for the Reds against the Phillies. He ended the season in Cincinnati after spending the majority of the season at AAA Louisville.
