DENTON, Texas - Junior Cassie Chavez was honored by the coaches from the Betlin Mean Green Classic, making the all-tournament team announced by North Texas today.
Chavez led the Lobos hitting .500 after starting all three games that were completed. She was 4-for-8 with two walks, one RBI and one run scored.
It is the second consecutive tournament that Chavez' play and leadership have been recognized. She was also the only Lobo to make the All-Tournament team last weekend at the Troy Cox Classic hosted by New Mexico State.
Overall, New Mexico finished the tournament 0-3 after an 8-6 loss to North Texas, 4-3 loss to Wichita State and a 7-1 loss to Southwest Missouri State. The Lobos' game against Western Michigan was postponed from Saturday until Sunday due to poor weather and then cancelled on Sunday. They have now been rained out of six games this year compared to just one last year.
The Lobos return to the Lone Star State to compete in Texas Tech's tournament for the second year in a row. The Lobos open play with Texas A&M Corpus Christi, which is receiving votes in the USA TODAY/NFCA Top 25 poll, on Friday, Mar. 4 at 11 a.m. They will also take on Centenary, Utah Valley State, UC Riverside and Texas Tech.
