New Mexico Head Coach Joe Franklin"It's never about the coach, this is all about the kids. After all these years of cross country running at New Mexico we finally have a women's conference championship and they'll always be the first. They won't be the last though. When we came here (in 2007), we came with the idea that this was the expectation every year for this program."
"We showed we had depth today. We didn't have to have the individual winner and we didn't even have to have our number one runner lead us."
"Nicky (Archer) set the pace and had about a 10-meter lead on everyone until about the final 1,000 meters. It's hard to push the pace, especially this kind of heat and humidity. We're just not used to it. Nicky faded a bit, but still ran a great race. Lacey Oeding was in the back of the pack through the first 1,000 meters and just blew them away the rest of the way. It was an unbelievable individual performance. Carolyn Boosey ran great, Leslie Luna out-kicked a BYU girl down the stretch and keeps getting better and better, and Michelle Corrigan rolled her ankle and still came through with a huge performance."
"The result may not have shown it, but we ran really well on the men's side. We're definitely moving in the right direction and I still believe that this is a darn good team that will be a factor in two weeks at the Mountain Region Championships. A few guys were just off today, but Jacob (Kirwa), Rory (Fraser) and Mat (Ashton) did exactly what we needed them to do. When we get everyone clicking at the same time, this will be a dangerous team."
