New Mexico head coach Steve Alford:
"The technical, we really needed something to get us going. We didn't do much for the next two or three minutes but after that I thought we did a lot of good things."
"We didn't design him (Daniel Faris) to get 16 freakin' shots. I thought Daniel did a tremendous job. It's all a learning curve. We've talked about this. It's all a big learning curve. One, we made free throws down the stretch. Hopefully we can build some momentum with that. Two, as I told Monquel (Pegues) and Daniel, they would have both fouled out guarding (Luke) Nevil two months ago, in 10 minutes. They've grown, they've matured. I know that it was a war. This was a Big Ten-type officiated game, as far as the physicality and I thought our guys handled it well."
"I thought Utah handled it well. But when you're guarding a guy whose 7-1, I think the big key was what those two guys did."
Utah head coach Jim Boylen:
"I'm disappointed, but I'm not discouraged. The difference in overtime was they scored 17 points and we scored seven. They made their free throws, we didn't. You got to give them credit. I thought there was a couple big calls that didn't go our way, but that happens sometimes and they probably think the same thing on their end. You got to make your free throws and you got to make your plays down the stretch. I'm proud of my team. We are getting better. We are getting tougher."
"This is a hard place to play. Our goal is to hang in there the first five minutes. They (the Lobos) are beating teams by 19 points a game here on average. Our goal is to hang in there and let the game settle down...handle our emotions. I thought we did that. If we make our free throws in regulation we win. I never really thought we were out of the game. The last two games we have come out of half time roaring. Sixteen turnovers is bad...you can't have 16 turnovers on the road. I am disappointed with that. We had 12 assists and 16 turnovers and I don't like that. You can analyze the stats anyway you want...we make our free throws, we win the game. Take nothing away from New Mexico. Steve Alford is a good coach, they got a good team."
