ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- Indi Johnson had 15 points for Southern University as the Jaguars beat Norfolk State University at The Pit this evening, 70-57 . Ashley Compton led Norfolk State with 13 points.
Southern went into the locker room at half with a 30-27 lead. Despite being down by three at the half, Norfolk State shot an impressive 9 for 9 from the free throw stripe. Southern pulled away late in the second half with a 9-0 run to push the score to 53-44 at 8:47. The Jaguars hit their free throws down the stretch to keep the game out of reach and pick up their first win of the season.
Johnson went 6 of 12 from the field and 3 of 3 from the free throw line for Southern. Freda Allen recorded a double-double with 16 total rebounds and 13 total points for the Jaguars.
Norfolk State, 1-5 on the season, will play North Florida on Tuesday, December 18. Southern, 1-5 on the season, will travel to Mobile, Ala., to take on the University of South Alabama on December 13.
