Colorado Springs, Colo. --- University of New Mexico senior and Albuquerque native Rachel Montoya was named the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week after assisting on both winning goals against Air Force and Wyoming, and also netting the tying goal at the Cowgirls.
On the defensive side, San Diego State Tiffany Hurst and Nevada's Dana Moreno were both named as the Co-Defensive Players of the Week.
Montoya had a hand in all three of New Mexico's goals as the Lobos swept a pair of Mountain West contests over the weekend. On Friday, Montoya's corner kick to the back post led to the lone goal of the game, as Alexis Leyba knocked in home at the 46:19 mark of a 1-0 shutout of Air Force.
Then on Sunday's 2-1 win Senior Day win over Wyoming, Montoya tied the contest with a goal at the 69:51 mark, then assisted on the game-winning score with 1:08 left to play. She finished with weekend with four points and eight shots, including two on goal.
The two wins gave UNM a 4-1-1 conference mark, good enough to clinch the No. 2 seed and a bye in the conference tournament in two weeks in San Diego. They also gave the Lobos 10 wins for the fourth straight season, and an eighth straight winning season. Montoya also now ranks 10th on the career UNM assist chart, and her five goals, four assists, and 14 points all lead the team.
Montoya's award is the fourth time this year that UNM has been so honored. Jordan Craig was the Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 3, and Liz Nare was back-to-back Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 17 and 24.
The Lobos take on No. 6 San Diego State on the road on Friday night in the regular season finale.
