New Mexico head coach Don Flanagan

Opening comments:

"First of all, New Mexico State is difficult to defend. We played our best two halves of the season. Defensively, I thought we did pretty well. We held them where we wanted to hold them. We wanted to keep them under 50 points. Offensively, we shot a very high percentage. We don't always shoot that high of a percentage, 58 percent in the second half was exceptional. I like what we did. They are hard to guard. They like to drive and they create problems for the defense by driving."

"I think we improved for a full game. We played a great second half against Nebraska and a poor first half. Tonight we played two outstanding halves. We were patient and poised and we haven't been to date. We have been a little nervous, a little anxious. We had some young kids and it affects them that way."

On Valerie Kast:
"You know what I like that she did, she didn't play just good offense, she played good defense. She kept her hands up. She helped out from time to time. She bothered the low post player. She blocked a lot of shots. She is starting to understand what we need for her. Obviously, if she comes around that makes us a lot different team. If Sara Halasz comes around we have a transition player. If Val comes around we have another low post player, which gives us more weapons. I just want to keep improving with this team. They have had a great attitude and they give a great effort. They want to win, they are a very competitive bunch."

Senior Angela Hartill

On New Mexico's defense:
"Everybody really played today. We were encouraging on the bench, on the court. Everybody was playing hard. Everyone was really determined to get this win and it definitely showed on the court."

On beating NMSU:
"It feels pretty good, but in the back of your mind you know (NMSU) will be gunning for us when we go down there. It feels good but we know we have one more chance at them."

On Valerie's play:
"I am so proud of Val (Kast). She totally deserves this night. She has been working her tail off for the past few years and it definitely paid off today. She played really well."

Junior Valerie Kast

On her play:
"That was a lot of fun. It was such a team effort from everyone on the bench and the starters. The entire team put so much into it. When you see everyone on your team contributing so much you just want to put that much into it."

"I feel like I did really well. I think I should be like that every night, there is no reason for me not to be like that considering my frame. If we do that we are going to be tough, not only on the outside but on the inside as well."

On Angela
"I have to say that I give credit to Angela. I get my toughness from her."
