ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Over 35 Lobo baseball alumni participated in the second annual Alumni Game today at Lobo Field. The Silver team, which had a slight edge as it was composed of mostly younger alum, walked away with the win, 6-2.

The Cherry team put a run on the board right away off Danny Ray Herrera (2004-06). After Sam Bregman (1985) reached on an error, Aaron Cain (1976-79) doubled him home. Herrera got the next three batters out and also had a single in the third.

The Silver team plated six runs in the first. The inning was eventually ended without an out being recorded. The inning was highlighted by a Jay Russell (2004-07) two-run double. Daniel Stovall (2004-07) stole home to plate the fourth run of the inning. Scott Candelaria (1998-2000) doubled in Matt Foote (2004-07) to cap the scoring at six.

The oldest alum to play was Jim Economides (1957), who collected an RBI groundout in the sixth.

Chad Itokazu, Drew McDonald, Jacob Norton, Quentin Andes and Stephen Smith represented the 2008 squad on the Silver team, while Ian Hollick (2005-08) caught for the Cherry team. Norton pitched a 1-2-3 inning for the Silver team in the third.

Ernie Blackstone (1978), the captain of the Cherry squad, made an epic catch at second in the fourth to get out Kevin Letz (2004).

"It was an outstanding turnout," Lobos head coach Ray Birmingham said. "Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, and it was a lot of fun. It's a great day to be a Lobo."
