FORT WORTH, Texas - It was another rough night on the court for the Lady Lobos as the TCU women's basketball team handed them a 67-43 loss at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum tonight. New Mexico fell to 12-7 overall and 2-4 in the Mountain West Conference after shooting just 26.7 percent (8-for-30) in the second half. The Horned Frogs, who shot 40.6 percent (13-32) in the second period, improved to 14-6 overall and 4-2 in the MWC.
The Lobos outshot TCU in the first half but trailed 29-23 heading into the lockerroom at the half. New Mexico, which held a nine-point lead (13-4) early, suffered an eight-minute field goal drought, scoring just two points on free throws.
TCU used a 17-7 run to open up the second half, extending its lead to 16 (46-30) with 11:27 remaining. Freshman guard Christian Shelter hit a 3-pointer followed by a lay-up, sparking a 10-5 Lobo run. The Horned Frogs' lead was down to 11 with just over six minutes left but UNM could only make one more field goal the rest of the way.
The Horned Frogs' Adrianne Ross just missed a triple-double, recording 16 points, 11 rebounds, 8 assists and 5 steals. Ashley Davis scored a team-high 19 points while Lorie Butler-Ryaford pulled down a game-high 19 boards.
New Mexico returns to The Pit for a three-game homestand beginning Saturday night. The Lobos host UNLV at 7 p.m. for Pack the Pit and Sweet Sixteen Night. As part of the 40th year of The Pit, UNM will honor its most successful team in Lady Lobo basketball history, the 2003 Sweet Sixteen team. Tickets are only $4 for adults and $3 for youth.
