Lobos Earn First Win Of Season Over Vandals

MOSCOW, Ida. - The University of New Mexico women's soccer team earned its first win of the season with a 1-0 victory over the Idaho Vandals.

The game-winning goal came in the 17th minuted of play off the foot of junior midfielder Rachael Addison. Addison scored her first goal of the season, striking from about 35 yards out. Vandals' goalkeeper Kim Carey deflected the shot, but not enough as the ball rolled into the goal.

"It is nice to finally get a win," said head coach Kit Vela. "We never gave up and played hard the entire game."

The Lobos defense was once again a dominating force. Idaho attempted only 13 shots on the game. The Vandals attempted three cornerkicks compared to the Lobos' two. Junior goalkeeper Kristen Winters made six saves in the net for the Lobos.

With the win, the Lobos improve to 1-4-2 on the season. The Vandals fall to 2-4-3.

New Mexico stays on the road next weekend as take on Arizona State, Saturday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m.
