ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The University of New Mexico volleyball team begins spring training on Thursday, March 29 with an Alumni match. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m. MT and will be held at the Jonson Center. Admission to the event is free to anyone who chooses to attend.
Several former alumnae are expected to be in town for the match, including: Allison Buck, Taylor Hadfield, Anna Lehne, Allie Suiter, Jeanne Fairchild, Maria Stutsman y Marquez and current assistant coach Lisa Beauchene.
The alumni match will serve as the kick start to the Lobos' spring competition schedule. After the Lobos play the squad compiled of the UNM Alums on Thursday, they will turn right around to host an eight-team invitational tournament on Saturday, March 31. Teams invited to the tournament include: Adams State, UNM Alumni, New Mexico Highlands, New Mexico State, UTEP, New Mexico Military Institute and Texas Tech. The Lobos will also travel twice; on April 7 to New Mexico State and April 14 to Colorado State.
The spring season will lead up to the annual Grass Bash, which serves as a fundraiser for the UNM Children's Hospital and the Lobo Scholarship Fund. The Grass Bash is set to take place April 21-22.
The Lobos will also take a break between competitions to hold their annual postseason banquet where they will honor last season's team and departing seniors Allison Buck, Ashley Rhoades and Kelly Williamson on Friday night.
