FULLERTON, Calif. - The University of New Mexico softball team fell 10-1 in five innings to No. 1 Washington, Thursday night at the dual diamond Titan Softball Complex. The Lobos are now 0-2 in the second day of the Judi Garman Classic, hosted by Cal State Fullerton. New Mexico will be back in action against No. 23 Louisville Friday at 7:00 p.m. MT.
The Huskies scored three runs in the first inning, one in the second inning, and six more in the top of the fourth inning to win 10-1 in five innings. Danielle Lawrie went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and a double to lead Washington at the plate.
Jessica Lujan-Dresslar led the Lobos going 1-for-2 and scored the only run in the bottom of the first inning off of an error by Washington. Freshman Jordyn Bledsoe went 1-for-2 with a double at the plate for New Mexico.
The Huskies were only allowed one extra-base hit in the game with a double by Lawrie, but errors continue to hinder the Lobos this season with seven of Washington's runs being unearned.
Baily Harris (15 -0) received the win in the circle for Washington and helped her team improve to 23-1 on the season. With the loss New Mexico falls to 9-14 on the season. Samantha Gatson got the loss for the Lobos in the circle and is now 3-6.
The Lobos have three more games left in the tournament, where they will play No. 23 Louisville on Friday. New Mexico will take on No. 2 Arizona Saturday evening and finishes up the tournament against Fresno State on Sunday. For more information regarding live scoring go to GoLobos.com.
