ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- The University of New Mexico men's tennis team, ranked No. 68, defeated South Alabama for the second time this season. The Lobos won 5-2 at the Lobo Tennis Club on Friday. UNM also won the first meeting that opened the HEB Invitational for both programs on Feb. 29 in Corpus Christi, Texas. The Lobos improve to 12-6 while the Jaguars fall to 7-7 on the season.
In doubles, the Lobos lead by a match after a default win and continued on to take the remaining two courts. Max Jones and Kamil Pajkowski played the No. 1 spot against Jack Baker and R.J. Nagel and trailed 4-3 before taking over the match to win 8-4. Chris Parkes and Johnny Parkes played at No. 2. They won the first four games against Robert Hodel and Marek Sramek then finished with an 8-5 victory.
Jones and Baker played a long first set and needed three sets to decide the match. The Lobo senior, No. 47 Jones, won 7-6, 3-6, 10-8 to improve to 13-9 on the season. Johnny Parkes played the No. 2 spot defeating Sramek 6-2, 6-4. Pajkowski moved up to No. 5 and collected his 12th victory of the season. He made quick work of Aaron Krisan winning 6-0, 6-2.
New Mexico closes out their non-conference portion of its schedule on Saturday against Texas A&M Corpus-Christi at 10:30 a.m.
