Lobo Women's Basketball Advances in 84-41 route of Air Force

LAS VEGAS, Nev.--The University of New Mexico women's basketball team defeated the Air Force Falcons, 84-41 today in the first round of the Mountain West Tournament inside the Thomas and Mack Center. Junior Amy Beggin led the way for the Lobos with 18 points - all in the first half. The Lobos, the No. 4 seed, will advance to the second round with an overall record of 21-9. The Falcons, the No. 9 seed, will end their season with an overall record 4-26. The victory marks the 26th consecutive time New Mexico has defeated Air Force.

The Lobos led by 20 points at the half thanks to Beggin's quick 18 first half points. New Mexico put together two runs that sealed the deal early. The Falcons had an early 5-0 lead but a three-pointer by junior Eileen Weissmann and sparked a 13-0 run. The Lobos ended the first half on a 12-2 run. Senior Angela Hartill added 11 points and five rebounds. Sophomore Amanda Best pitched in eight points and 11 rebounds and fellow sophomore Jessica Kielpinski had 13 points with five assists off the bench.

New Mexico held Air Force to 15-47 from the field and 18 second half points.

The Lobos will play the winner of No. 5 seed Wyoming and No. 8 seed Colorado State tomorrow in the Thomas and Mack Center. Tomorrows second round game will be televised live in High Definition, by the Mountain Sports Network at 4:30 p.m. PST. For more information visit www.GoLobos.com.
